About
The Taldom Historical and Literary Museum is located in the mansion of the 1st guild of merchant D.I. Volkov, built in the late 19th — early 20th century in the Art Nouveau style with balconies and ceilings designed by Monier. The building is lined with green glazed tiles. The doors, moldings, layout, stoves and various accessories have been preserved inside.
The museum has more than 17 thousand exhibits, which are based on household items and ethnography, porcelain, documents and more. This is not a classic museum of local lore, the expositions are built on the principle of identity: those collections and objects are presented, primarily with which the history of Taldom is associated. First of all, it is a rich collection of shoes from the 19th to the 21st century, items of merchant life and recreated residential interiors of the pre-revolutionary era. This is also the collection of porcelain from Verbilkovsky Factories, the oldest private porcelain company in the country. And, of course, exhibits related to the personalities of writers whose lives were connected with the Taldom region.
Today, the Taldom Museum has become a permanent center of attraction for the cultural public, as well as one of the most popular leisure destinations for residents and visitors of the city.

The building is a former merchant's apartment building, converted into a museum, but retaining the layout and partially the interiors. That is why sometimes films are shot here, for example, "According to the criminal investigation Department"
